Our History

Astro Science Institute, Mauritius, previously known as the Maharishi Gautama Vishwa Vidyapeeth University, a traditional leading University was formed on the pious day of Navaratri on the 13th October 2015 under the Registry of Associations, Government of Mauritius. The Chancellor namely Dr. Romeshwar Bhugwant (Dr Acharya Sharad Pandey Bhugwant Ji) later on managed to integrate the University in the Mauritius Qualifications Authority list of Institutes. With the passage of time, the University has had numerous students enrolled in the different courses which were provided.

From 2015 to 2018, the University had several graduation ceremonies at national and international level, awarding students certificate and diploma courses. The team was very dynamic to work for the upliftment of the philosophical knowledge behind each subject and also to have had organised several workshops and seminars. The University was affiliated with several International and National Institutes for providing different courses in subjects like Sanskrit, Astrology, Karmakand etc.

Formation of a new university

In 2019, the Chancellor decided to re–register the said University under a new name and new ideas as Astro Science Institute, Mauritius. His primary goal was to propagate the proper teaching of Astrophysics, Astronomy, Astrology and any other related / allied subjects. He then formed a new team to get the Institute registered and to promote the studies of the galaxies.

Astro Science Institute, Mauritius (ASI) was constituted on the 28th July 2020 at D'epinay, Pamplemousses, Mauritius for global propagation of the different branches of Astronomy, Astrology, and other related educational programme, research & development. Bearing registration number 16394, ASI was then recognised by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority.

Today, ASI is fully recognised nationally as well as internationally for giving courses as regular and even in online distance learning mode.

First ISO–Certified Institute in Mauritius

In line with its endeavour to provide the best learning experience to all its learners, ASI became the first ISO - Certified education institution in Mauritius on the 12th December 2021.

The Institute has been certified ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2018 respectively. In detail it is as follows:

The award of this certification is the result of the sustained effort of all the staff and the Director of the institution to establish and maintain quality measures to meet the changing requirements of the public.

ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 21001:2018 certifications aligns with standards provided by international quality institutions and the Mauritius Standard Bureau, which is the local certification body.
